Let’s plan the door openings together before the rough construction

Source is the Planned Areas Zoning Regulation, Article 39 (including the amendment of 13 August 2025). The sizes are clear passage widths. Fire escape doors and the other requirements of the accessibility legislation are not covered by this tool. The result shows the general rule, and your municipality’s zoning status and your project’s own conditions can change it. For a binding answer ask the municipality and an architect.

Regulation

Does my door meet the regulation?

The information on this page applies to Turkey. Article 39 of the Planned Areas Zoning Regulation sets a minimum for every door. The clear passage width must be at least 90 cm for a room door and other rooms (bathroom and WC included), at least 100 cm for an apartment entrance door and at least 150 cm for a building entrance door. The height is at least 210 cm for all of them. Doors may not have a threshold.

This tool takes the door type and the clear size you plan, shows the minimum and tells you whether your size meets it. The opening you enter and the regulation minimum are drawn to the same scale, so you can see the difference as well.

How the tool decides

It takes the minimum for the door type you pick from the table in our article on standard door and window sizes. That is 90 cm for a room door and other rooms, 100 cm for an apartment entrance, 150 cm for a building entrance and 90 cm for a balcony door. The height is 210 cm for all of them. If your width or height is below that, it tells you how many centimetres are missing.

If a building entrance door is double-leaf, one leaf must be at least 100 cm. The balcony door size applies to at least one balcony of every apartment in buildings with more than 3 and fewer than 10 floors.

Clear size is not the same as the wall opening

The regulation's sizes are clear passage widths. The frame and leaf come on top, so the opening left in the wall is wider than the clear size. How much wider depends on the door system you choose, and this tool does not calculate it. Our advice is to leave the door openings at the rough construction stage, based on the clear size, before the door is chosen. Widening them later means breaking walls.

What this does not cover

The tool only looks at door size. Window sizes, fire escape doors and the other requirements of the accessibility legislation are outside its scope, and they are separate technical subjects specific to each project. For door and window sizes as a whole, see our related article.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the minimum width of a room door?

Under Article 39 of the Planned Areas Zoning Regulation, the clear width of doors to rooms such as bedrooms, bathrooms and WCs must be at least 90 cm, and an apartment entrance door at least 100 cm. Clear width is the opening you walk through, without frame and leaf.

What is the minimum height of a door?

The height of every door is at least 210 cm. Doors may not have a threshold (Article 39/2). If a threshold is unavoidable, measures are taken so it does not obstruct disabled people's movement or fire exits.

What is the minimum width of a building entrance door?

The clear width of a building entrance door must be at least 150 cm. If the door is double-leaf, one leaf must be at least 100 cm. The height is again at least 210 cm.

Is the clear width the same as the door leaf size?

No. The regulation's size is the clear opening you walk through, and the frame and leaf come on top of it. The opening left in the wall is therefore wider than the clear size. How much wider depends on the door system you choose, so check the door manufacturer's size table.
